Conrad and Esyllt
Good gentles of our faire Barony of l’Ile du Dragon Dormant!
We, Conrad Connor MacAllyn and Esyllt ferch Llewellyn ap Rodhri, hereby present ourselves for your consideration to become the Barony’s second coronets. It is our hope to serve the populace of l’Ile du Dragon Dormant by representing the Eastern Crown as custodians of Their lands in the Crown Principality of Tir Mara within the East Kingdom. We are mindful that this position is one at the whim of BOTH the populace of l'ile du Dragon Dormant AND Their Majesties of the East. We have the Barony's best interest in mind as we put our foot forward for consideration.
Proactive participation and leading by example will be the order of the day as we surge forward to attain our barony’s future prominence in stature. We plan to put our combined past experiences and long establishment to good use as we usher in the next chapter of our Barony’s history.
It is our intention is to bring our Barony to new heights as a shining example for others in the principality to aspire to. We hope to foster the belief and behavior that the whole of the Barony is greater than the sum of its parts. We are a community of like individuals that share this passion that is the Middle Ages, and we wish to promote everyone’s interest for the betterment of our society. To accomplish this, we will work with you to help expand our image as a Barony by being more inclusive and community oriented.
Projects we have in mind:
Expanding on the pageantry surrounding our Championship events (and hopefully have more than two fighters show up for the Heavy List tournament!)
Encourage travel by our populace to attend our many events, as well as our neighbours’ events as representatives of our Barony.
Organise a Baronial encampment for Pennsic 40 (Summer 2011). To that end, we hope to raise enough funds to put together a period Baronial awning for general use at War, as well as other events we will be participating in.
The children of our Barony are our future. To that end, we will dedicate our tenure as Baron and Baroness to our Barony’s children and promoting more activities our youth can be involved in, including Youth Combat.
About Us:
Master Conrad Connor MacAllyn – just some guy who fancied showing up in garb at Les Médiévales du Québec back in 1993 and was introduced to the SCA by a friend (to get some help getting kitted up). After going to one of these “meetings” to learn more about costumes, he wound up sticking around and getting involved in more activities. Fast forward 17 years and he is still an active participant, having attended over 200 events throughout the Kingdom, spanning from the Shire of Hartshorn-dale (Southern PA) to the Shire of Ar n-eilean-ne (St-John's, NL) as well as neighbouring Kingdoms. His persona is a 14th Century Scott, having served in the armies of France and Scotland during the Scottish War of Independance. Conrad is a veteran of two foreign Wars (Pennsic and Estrella) and served as Queen's Guard for two reigns. He is married to Lady Esyllt (see below) and father to their newborn daughter Rosalynde. Conrad has held many administrative positions over the years, including Historian, Captain of Archers, Seneschal, and Knight Marshal at the local level, as well as Archery Commander and Deputy Earl Marshal at the regional level. His interests include armoured combat, archery, bardic activities, calligraphy & illumination, and brewing. His list of accolades include:
Order of the Pelican with Patent of Arms
Court Barony
Order of the Silver Crescent
Order of the Sagittarius
Order of the Tygers Combatant
Order of the Maunche
Order of the Troubadour
Queens Honor of Distinction (Isabella II)
Queens Honor of Distinction (Yana IV).
In real life, Vince Chiarelli is a Technical Writer (Sr.) and Editor at Bombardier Transport.
Lady Esyllt ferch Llewellyn ap Rodhri – has had a keen interest in history for most of her life. Her persona is 10th Century Welsh, during a time period when women were more independent even by modern standards. She was introduced to the SCA through her relationship with Conrad (see above) about 6 years ago. She likes to help out and be useful at events, but usually does so in the background and out of the spotlight. Along with her fondness for horses, she enjoys embroidery, crochet, and cross-stitching. Although she has only tried archery a couple of times, it is an interest that she plans on pursuing further in the future. Lady Esyllt is the mother of a newborn (Rosalynde) and spends most of her time caring for her. Her accolades include:
Award of Arms
In real life, Dr. Tamara L. Western is an Associate Professor of Biology at McGill University.
We are very approachable, and invite everyone to feel free to introduce themselves and get to know us. We certainly look forward to getting to know more about you. Please feel free to contact us at: vchiarelli@carillon.ca.
In service, we remain,
- Conrad and Essylt
